Lorry ‘crashes into barrier’ on M57 causing long delays

A lorry reportedly crashed into a barrier on a motorway, causing long delays.

Emergency services were called to junction 1 of the M57, near Tarbock Island, at around 4am on Thursday, April 4. It followed reports of a crash which eyewitnesses said involved a HGV which had crashed into a barrier.

North West Motorway Police said the exit slip road and one lane were closed as emergency workers dealt with the incident. It is unclear if anyone was injured in the crash.

The crash caused delays for a number of hours. Photos taken by the ECHO near the scene at around 8am today showed long queues and slow moving traffic. One person said the expressway near Huyton[3] was “blocked”.

Traffic management system Inrix said repairs were being carried out. The incident has since cleared.
