A careless lorry driver who ploughed into stationary traffic on Britain’s busiest motorway killing four people is facing jail after admitting causing their deaths in the horrifying crash.
Ethan Burdett, 67, of Ipswich, pleaded guilty at Chelmsford Crown Court to causing the deaths when he failed to see the traffic queue on the M25 in Essex in August 2021 and slammed into the victims’ van almost crushing it.
Traffic police were called to the motorway at just after 6pm on 23 August 2021 and found a scene of destruction after Burdett’s lorry had hit the minibus.
An investigation by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit revealed that Burdett had been travelling between junctions 27 and 26, but failed to react to stationary traffic queuing which was queuing in the inside lane.
His truck slammed into the rear of the minibus which was shunted forward and hit a car in front.
