M60 ‘serious’ collision – police issue numerous warnings
Police have issued a warning over people taking videos of a 'serious collision' on the M60[1] on Monday afternoon (April 1).
Emergency services, including an air ambulance, raced to the scene of the incident on the clockwise carriageway between junctions 23 and J24.
All traffic in both directions was brought to a standstill, with the clockwise carriageway fully closed to allow the helipad to land and for police to conduct their investigations.
A number of fire engines were seen in attendance, along with police vehicles. Witnesses caught up in the congestion said an air ambulance landed in the middle of the motorway following the collision.
Motorists were told to avoid the area as investigation work was carried out. Further details about the nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed by police.
Amid the incident, North West Motorway Police urged those passing the scene to stop taking pictures and filming the incident, asking people to 'stop and think about the families of the people involved.'
They posted to X: "To the people who think it is okay to film the scene on the M60, please stop think of the families of the people involved, it is not OKAY."
The force later urged stuck motorists to remain in their vehicles after reports of people getting out of their cars to walk their dogs and buy ice creams from an ice cream van also trapped within the closure.
"While we appreciate the delays are annoying on the M60 everyone should stay in their vehicles, our patrols making to the scene are advising people are out walking their dogs and getting ice creams from an ice cream van, we are starting rear ward relief shortly," they wrote.
