Pedestrian seriously injured after hit-and-run van crash in Devonport

A pedestrian has been hospitalised with serious injuries after being involved in a collision with a van in Devonport[1]. Police were called to the scene of a crash between a van and a pedestrian on Fore Street at 4.10pm on Tuesday, April 23.

The pedestrian was taken to Derriford Hospital[2] after being seriously injured, police said.. It is not thought that their injuries are life-threatening or life-changing.

The van is reported to have left the scene of the crash. A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police[3] confirmed the road was reopened by 7pm.

At the time, Plymouth Highways said: “We are getting reports of an RTC on Fore Street in Devonport near the old Mecca Bingo Hall. Emergency services are aware. Please expect delays. Updates when we get them.”

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said: “Police were called to Fore Street, Devonport at around 4.10pm on Tuesday, April 23, following reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a white van. The ambulance service was also called to the scene and the pedestrian taken to Derriford having suffered what were believed to be serious injuries. The injuries are not said not to be life-threatening or life-changing.

“It was reported that the van left the scene following the collision. The road was reopened by 7pm.”

Police are now appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward. Anyone with dashcam footage is asked to call 101 quoting log 520 of 23 April .
