Police investigating ‘serious’ A47 crash that left person in hospital

The A47 in Cambridgeshire was closed after a ‘serious’ crash involving a car and a lorry on Friday night (April 5). The eastbound carriageway was closed between the B1040 at Thorney and the B1167 at New Cut while police responded.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson said a passenger in the car was treated and taken to hospital. They said the force are continuing with an investigation into the crash.

The crash was first reported shortly before 11pm by a National Highways spokesperson. They said: “The A47 in Cambridgeshire[1] is closed eastbound between the B1040 (Thorney) and the B1167 (New Cut) due to a serious collision involving a car and a lorry. Police are on scene & they expect the road to be closed for some time for investigation works.”

A local diversion was in place. The road reopened at about 11.30pm. The National Highways spokesperson said after the road reopened: “There are no significant delays in the area. Thanks for your patience this evening.”
