Powys police confirm driver died in crash that closed A470

Police are currently investigating the incident, which occurred at approximately 4.40pm on Tuesday, April 23.

According to the police, the collision involved a lorry and a car and took place on a stretch of the A470 between Brecon and Talgarth in Powys, with the road remaining closed for several hours afterwards.

The force confirmed that the female driver of the car died at the scene.

It was one of two fatal crashes on Powys’ roads on the same day, after a woman died in a crash that closed the Newtown bypass for several hours[1], also on Tuesday.

In a statement, the police said: “A lorry and a car were involved in the collision on the A470 between Brecon and Talgarth in Powys.

“Sadly the female driver of the car died at the scene.

“Next of kin has been advised and our thoughts remain with them at this sad time.”

The road was closed after the incident and re-opened at about 3.45am on Wednesday, April 24.
