Several speed cameras in and around Clydebank to be deactivated
Safety Cameras Scotland (SCS), which operates within Police Scotland, confirmed the move earlier this week.
The organisation revealed the locations where machines and mobile enforcement units will go into dormancy.
Which speed cameras are being turned off?
- B814 Duntocher Road near Overtoun Road, Clydebank – mobile enforcement location.
- A814 Glasgow Road near North Elgin Street, Clydebank – mobile enforcement location.
- A82 Great Western Road near Keal Avenue, Knightswood.
- A814 Victoria Park Drive at Westland Drive, Whiteinch
- Anniesland Road at Ryvra Road, Knightswood.
Over the past five years, SCS conducted a performance review of engagement and enforcement of speed cameras across Scotland.
The organisation states that “significant progress” had been made in enhancing road safety and that results were “encouraging”.
It added that during this time there had been no speed or red light-related injury collisions at any of the locations on the deactivation list.
As such SCS decided to pause live deployments to these sites.
Drivers are advised that the speed cameras and signs will remain in place but with a bag placed over the machine to indicate it is not operational.
Turning the cameras off/stopping mobile enforcement units from being deployed to these areas will allow for further assessments to be carried out.
These will be undertaken over three years and once completed a decision will be made over potential decommissioning or reactivation.
