Stoke-on-Trent woman, 52, killed in M6 crash as man arrested

A woman from Stoke-on-Trent has died in a collision on the M6. A man has been arrested following the crash in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services had been scrambled to what had been described as a ‘serious incident’ on the northbound carriageway between Junction 21 and Junction 21a at around 12.15am. StokeonTrentLive reported[1] how the route was shut as an investigation got underway.

Now Cheshire Police[2] have confirmed a 52-year-old woman, of Stoke-on-Trent, was later pronounced dead at the scene. Following the collision a 52-year-old man, of Preston, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A spokesman for the force said: “At 12.15am today (April 9), officers came across a collision involving a white car on the M6 motorway between Junction 21 and Junction 21a. Shortly after officers discovered that a 52-year-old woman, from Stoke-on-Trent, had been struck by a vehicle on the M6 to the M62 slip road.

“Attempts to save the woman were conducted, but despite best efforts, she was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene at 1.14am. A 52-year-old man from Preston has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.”

The route was fully reopened at around 9am. Witnesses are asked to call the force on 101.
