Fatal double death A361 crash the latest on notorious road
Police are appealing for dashcam footage after two people died in a crash in Somerset.[1] The serious collision on the A361 near Frome is the latest to have happened on the stretch of road.
It is the fourth fatal crash on the A361 near Frome[2] in the last ten months. Before yesterday’s tragic incident, the most recent being 25-year-old Natasha Poore on the evening on April[3] 8.
The Frome bypass is one of the busiest roads in Somerset, carrying traffic from in and around Frome as well as lorries from the numerous quarries to the west and serving as a main link to the neighbouring town of Trowbridge. Somerset Council this week had though stated that any engineering work on the road is unlikely to reduce the number of deaths or injuries – though it will continue to analyse the collision data before any final decision is taken.[4][5][6]
The latest fatal collision, which left the A361 near Frome closed for most of Thursday afternoon (May 30) involved two cars and a lorry, Avon and Somerset Police has said. Emergency services were called to Marston Road at around 3.10pm after a silver Ford, black Land Rover and a lorry collided.
Both the driver and passenger, both women, in the Ford car were sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Their next of kin have been informed and are being supported by a specially trained family liaison officer, a police spokesperson.
One person who was inside the Land Rover was taken to hospital but their injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Police say the A361 was closed until around 12.05am today (May 31) while investigation work was carried out at the scene.
