Two men injured in crash that left M40 closed for hours

A man has been seriously injured in a crash on the M40 in the early hours of this morning. The northbound carriageway through parts of Warwickshire[1] is still closed as accident investigators examine the scene.

West Midlands Ambulance has confirmed that two men were injured in the crash, one seriously. He received advance life support at the scene. The man was a passenger in a van that was involved in the crash along with a lorry.

The driver of the van was also injured although paramedics said his condition was not believed to be serious. Both men were taken to hospital in Coventry[2] for treatment.

Police said it’s believed the van, a white Ford, went into the back of the lorry. The driver and passenger had to be cut out of the vehicle by firefighters after becoming trapped.

The crash happened just before 3am between Junction 12 and Junction 13 of the northbound carriageway of the M40. At the time of writing the northbound carriageway between Junction 12 for Gaydon and Junction 14 for Leamington Spa[4] was still closed.
