Update issued on East Lancs Road crash
A crash on the East Lancashire Road was confirmed to have been between a bin lorry and a motorbike.
Emergency services were called to the eastbound carriageway between Moorgate Road and the slip road for the M57[1] at around 6.35am on Thursday, May 9. Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the crash involved a bin lorry and a motorbike.
Pictures taken at the scene show forensics officers at the scene. The ECHO has approached Merseyside Police regarding the extent of any injuries.
Merseyside Police, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service are all at the scene. The eastbound and westbound carriageway of the East Lancashire Road are currently closed while the incident is being dealt with.
Drivers are being advised by police to avoid the area and there are long delays in and around the area. According to traffic management system Inrix there is congestion to routes through Fazakerley as traffic diverts.
Traffic on eastbound side of the closure is able to join the M57 at J4 (Randles Farm Interchange), traffic from the Fazakerley side is able to join the M57 at J6 (Kirkby[4])
A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: “Fire crews were called to a road traffic collision (RTC) this morning on East Lancs Road in Fazakerley[5], L11. Crews were alerted at 6.42am and on scene at 6.49am, with two fire engines and the search and rescue team in attendance.
“Crews arrived to find an RTC between a motorcycle and a bin lorry between Bridge House Lane and Moorgate Road. Fire crews were assisting Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service on scene before leaving at 7.51am.”
