Woman taken to hospital after M6 crash

A woman was taken to hospital after a crash that closed part of the M6[1] for several hours last night. The M6 Southbound at Junction 4 at Coleshill was closed from around 5.30pm until around 1am.

Earlier in the evening the slip road onto the M6 from the A446 was also closed[2] to allow emergency services to deal with the aftermath of the collision, but this reopened around 8pm.

The crash involved a Skoda and a lorry and police confirmed that a woman was taken to hospital with a head injury that wasn’t thought to be life threatening. Officers also issued an appeal for witnesses.

They said: “Any witnesses are asked to contact police at Tell us something you've seen or heard Warwickshire Police[3] or call 101 quoting the incident number.”

West Midlands Ambulance confirmed that the woman had been driving the car. A man, who had been driving the lorry, suffered minor injuries.

A spokesman said: "We were called to an RTC at junction 4 on the southbound carriageway of the M6 at 5.09pm (Thursday). One ambulance attended the scene and arrived to find two off duty WMAS paramedics rendering aid to two patients. A lorry driver, a man, sustained minor injuries and was discharged on scene. A car driver, a woman, was given treatment on scene for a potentially serious injury. She was conveyed on blue lights to University Hospital Coventry[4] and Warwickshire[5] for further emergency care."
