A371 at Wincanton closed for most of the day causing Glastonbury chaos

A major road will be closed for much of the day after a serious two-vehicle crash this morning (Wednesday, June 26). The A371 at Wincanton is expected to be closed for a number of hours today, which will affect Glastonbury Festival traffic.

The A371 will be closed between West Hill and Gibbet Road to allow emergency crews to recover the articulated lorry and van which were involved in the collision. Motorists have been warned of delays in the area as the road remains closed in both directions.

Drivers heading towards Worthy Farm for the festival are advised to carry on the A303 to Sparkford and then come off at the A359 to Castle Cary.

Avon and Somerset Police has warned that the road will be closed for a number of hours today following this morning’s crash. It said: “The A371 is expected to remain closed between West Hill and Gibbet Road until this afternoon, while the articulated lorry and the van involved are recovered. Please continue to avoid the area.”

Four people were injured in the lorry and van crash. One person suffered ‘significant’ injuries, but it is not known at this time if they are life-threatening or changing.
