Dramatic images show moments after lorry veered off a bridge and ended up in a canal

These dramatic images show the moments after a lorry came hurtling off a bridge, and took a tumble down a steep embankment – ending up submerged in a canal.

The shocking incident took place in the early hours of Sunday morning, at around 12.50am, near Burbage, Wiltshire, as the vehicle, belonging to Spanish logistics company, PrimaFrio, skidded off the road and ended up in the Kennet and Avon Canal.

Emergency services were called to the scene on the A346 near Burbage, Wiltshire, in the early hours of Sunday (June 16). And remarkably, despite the dramatic descent, Wiltshire Police confirmed that the driver escaped the incident without injury.

In a statement released at the time, Wiltshire Police alerted drivers to the situation, stating: “Drivers please be aware that the A346 north of Burbage is currently closed after a lorry left the carriageway and entered the canal in the early hours of this morning.”

They continued: “There are not thought to be any injuries, but a lengthy recovery operation is now underway. Please find alternate routes.”

Following the crash, the road in question was closed for around 24 hours to facilitate the removal of the lorry, reports Bristol Live[1].
