Exact locations where new ‘smart’ speed cameras will catch you as hundreds get tickets

Hundreds of motorists have been snared by new ‘smart’ speed cameras on bustling roads in Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire within just a few months. The digital cameras, equipped with the latest technology, are designed to assist police in nabbing speeders and encourage drivers to slow down.

These cameras are more ‘intelligent’ than the older yellow box models, no longer needing road markings to detect vehicles exceeding the limit. Staffordshire Police have deployed these cameras on roads that have raised concerns.

Most of the cameras are located in Stoke-on-Trent. The county’s police force has not dismissed the possibility of installing additional speed cameras in the future.

Since the beginning of this year, hundreds of drivers have already been caught speeding by these new cameras. These figures serve as a stark reminder for motorists to slow down and adhere to the speed limits on these busy roads.

The locations of the speed cameras, along with the number of drivers caught this year, are:.

  • A34, Trent Vale – 635
  • A53 Leek New Road between Baddeley Green and Stockton Brook – 249
  • A50/A5008 Potteries Way, Hanley – 158
  • A449 Wolverhampton Road, Stafford – 23

Ahead of the new technology being rolled out, Inspector Mark Joynson from the force’s Roads Policing Unit commented: “The installation of the new technology will make it easier to check speeds across Staffordshire and we hope they will provide a visual reminder of the work we do every day to keep all road users as safe as possible.”
