Kidsgrove trucker arrested as road closed and crash victim in Royal Stoke

Police have arrested a North Staffordshire trucker after a crash which left a motorist trapped and a road shut for hours. Emergency services were called out to Shrewbridge Road, in Nantwich[1], to reports of a smash involving a lorry and a car.

The collision left the driver of the Nissan Note, a 35-year-old woman, trapped. Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service[2] sent crews from Winsford and Crewe[3] with the ‘major rescue unit’ sent to the smash.

As reported by StokeonTrentLive at the time, the stretch of the A530 in Baddington had to be shut off – and remained closed until the afternoon. Today Cheshire Police have confirmed the Nissan driver was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.[4][5][6]

The trucker, from Kidsgrove[9], was arrested. The alarm had been raised at around 7.45am yesterday (June 18).

A police spokesman said: “Officers attended the scene and found that there had been a collision between a lorry and a Nissan Note. The driver of the Nissan was trapped in their vehicle. She was released by firefighters and taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital. Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening at this time.”

The trucker was not injured. He was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was later released under investigation.

The police spokesman added: “The A530 was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident, they left at around 1pm and the scene has since been passed to highways officers. Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and anyone with any information or dashcam footage is asked to contact Cheshire Police.”

Anyone with information should call the constabulary on 101 and quote IML 1849226.
