Lorry ends up in canal after early morning crash
A lorry has taken a plunge into a canal in a dramatic early morning crash off a bridge. Emergency services were called to the A346 near Burbage, Wiltshire, on Sunday.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene at around 12.50am. An articulated lorry, owned by Spanish logistics firm PrimaFrio, left the carriageway and came to rest in the Kennet and Avon Canal. Wiltshire Police said the driver of the vehicle was unharmed.
In a statement at the time, the force said: “Drivers please be aware that the A346 north of Burbage is currently closed after a lorry left the carriageway and entered the canal in the early hours of this morning. There are not thought to be any injuries but a lengthy recovery operation is now underway. Please find alternate routes.”
The road was closed for around 24 hours while the lorry was recovered.
