There were long delays on the M5 in the West Country after a crash involving a car and a van today (Monday, June 10). The incident happened on the northbound carriageway near to Clevedon at around noon.

Congestion was back from the scene of the collision near junction 20 back to junction 21 for Weston-super-Mare. There were also delays southbound as motorists slow down to take a look.

Emergency services were called to the scene, with a large fuel spillage needing to be cleared. There were around 6.5 miles of congestion, National Highways said, with delays on approach of up to an hour at the worst of the hold-ups.

The incident has since cleared.
