Man dies after crash between campervan and motorcycle which closed A40 for 10 hours

A man has died after a crash in Carmarthenshire which closed a section of the A40 for around 10 hours. The collision happened shortly after 1pm on Wednesday, June 12, between Llanwrda and Llandovery and involved a campervan and a motorcycle.

The road was closed in both directions throughout Wednesday afternoon and for most of the evening, re-opening at around 11.15pm. Fire crews from Llandovery and Llandeilo administered CPR to the man who had been riding the motorcycle, and used a defibrillator, but despite their best efforts police have confirmed on Thursday that the man died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. Officers are now appealing for information from anyone who may have witnessed the collision. A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “Dyfed-Powys Police is investigating a two vehicle road traffic collision which occurred at about 1.05pm on Wednesday, June 12. A beige Volkswagen campervan and a blue and white Honda motorcycle collided on the A40 between Llanwrda and Llandovery. Sadly, the male rider of the motorcycle died at the scene.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone living or travelling on the A40 between Llandeilo and the collision site between 12.30pm and 1pm, with dashcam or ring doorbell footage, is asked to contact police, either online[2], by emailing [email protected], or by calling 101, quoting reference DP-20240612-270.”
