Picture shows lorry hanging off the M4 after colliding with barrier

A crash this morning (Saturday, June 15) involving a lorry[1] closed two of three lanes of a major motorway. The incident happened on the M4 eastbound between junction 16 (Swindon West) and junction 15 (Swindon East).

A lorry collided with the nearside barrier which caused debris to go across the motorway. Only the inside lane was open due to the damage.

Due to the “extensive damage and debris”, delays are expected later this morning. National Highways adds that before the lorry can be recovered, the barrier will be needed to made safe.

National Highways said at the time: “Two lanes (of three) are closed due to a lorry colliding with the nearside barrier. There's extensive barrier damage and debris.

“The barrier needs to be made safe before recovery of the lorry takes place. Delays expected later this morning.”

The incident was first spotted at 5.50am by traffic cameras. The cameras have since been taken offline.
