Police investigate Cheshire M6 scene of devastation as five trucks crash
Police are investigating a crash involving five trucks on the M6 with sparked a day of gridlock around Cheshire. Officers, paramedics and firefighters were called out to the northbound carriageway where four lorries and a tanker had collided.
And National Highways were forced to shut off three lanes and later carry out emergency repairs. During the height of yesterday’s incident, officials urged motorists to simply stay away from the northbound stretch where drivers had found themselves in three hours worth of queues.
The smash took place at around 4am between Junction 18 and 19 with one trucker being taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital with ‘serious injuries’. Contractors had been brought in to deal with the spillage before highways chiefs confirmed that emergency repairs were needed due to the damage caused.

Lane closures were eventually lifted at around 1.30am today – around 21 hours after the crash occurred. Cheshire Police had released photographs of the scene to highlight to drivers just what they were dealing with which showed one truck seriously damaged – with a shed load.
Cheshire Police has confirmed the crash is being investigated. Meanwhile there has been no update on the casualty.
Witnesses should call the constabulary on 101.
