Tragedy as man, 61, killed in crash with two others seriously injured

A man has tragically died following a crash with a van on a major Cheshire[1] road. Officers were called out to the A556 Chester Road near the Vale Royal Abbey Arms pub in Oakmere, near Northwich, at around 4.30pm yesterday (June 17).

Cheshire Police[2] says the crash involved a grey BMW 1-Series car and a black Volkswagen Transporter van. The BMW driver, a 61-year-old man from Northwich, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin has been informed.

A passenger in the same car, a 48-year-old man from Chester, suffered serious injuries in the crash. The van driver, a 70-year-old man from Chester, also sustained serious injuries.

Both were treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to the Royal Liverpool[4] Hospital. Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is being urged to come forward.

Chief Inspector John Forshaw, of the Serious and Complex Collision Investigation Unit at Cheshire Police, said: “Our investigation is in the early stages, and we are committed to doing all we can to establish what took place. As part of our enquiries we’re keen to hear from anyone who believes they may have witnessed the collision.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who believes that they may have seen either the BMW or the van in the moments prior to the to the incident. We believe that the BMW had been travelling from Chester towards Northwich, while the van was travelling in the opposite direction towards Chester.

“The same goes for anyone with any dashcam footage which may aid the investigation.” Information can be passed on to Cheshire Police by calling 101 or reporting it online[5], quoting IML 1849570.
