Two dozen Plymouth criminals named and shamed
A man exposing himself at a police station and a woman nicking booze from a convenience store are just some of those that have appeared before Plymouth Magistrates’ Court recently.
Magistrates have been witness to the usual fare during the six days it was sitting – Monday to Saturday – and has seen a range of offences that were deemed worthy of being sentenced in the lower court.
Three people were sentenced for driving under the influence and five more were sentenced for other driving offences. Take a look at the list below:
DRINK/DRUG DRIVE
RYAN THOMAS, aged 33 of Desborough Road, Plymouth: Drove on Erle Gardens, Plymouth with Delta-9-tertahydrocannabinol (THC) in blood in excess of specified limit. Drove without due care and attention. Failed to stop after road accident whereby damage was caused to another vehicle. Court costs £350. Victim surcharge £114. Unpaid work 120 hours. Disqualified from driving for 45 months.
LEWIS WHITE, aged 22, of Landulph Gardens, Plymouth: Drove on Park Avenue with Delta-9-tetrahydrocannibol (THC), in blood, in excess of specified limit. Court costs £100. Victim surcharge £56. Fined £140. Disqualified from driving for 12 months.
LEE JEFFREY, aged 34 of Hospital Road, Plymouth: Rode Piaggio scooter on Wolseley Road with Delta-9-tertahydrocannabinol (THC) in blood in excess of specified limit. Rode Piaggio scooter without suitable licence. Rode Piaggio scooter without test certificate. Rode Piaggio scooter without suitable insurance. Court costs £85. Victim surcharge £48. Disqualified from driving for 40 months. Fined £120.
DRIVING OFFENCE
GEMMA STOCKWELL, aged 36 of Flora Cottages, Stonehouse[1] : Failed to give information regarding identity of driver of vehicle alleged guilty of an offence. Fined £80. Victim surcharge £32. Court costs £85. Driving record endorsed six points.
SIMON DAVIS, aged 28 of Essex Street, Plymouth: Driver failed to provide specimen for analysis at Church Street car park. Aggravated vehicle taking at Church Street car park. Possession of bladed article – namely a razor blade – in public place, Church Street car park. Drove without suitable insurance. Drove whilst disqualified. Disqualified from driving for 36 months. Prison eight weeks.
SPEEDING
JORJA FFION NICHOLLS, aged 20 of Charles Darwin Road, Plymouth: Drove on Old Laira Road, in excess of 20mph limit. Fined £115. Victim surcharge £46. Court cost £90. Driving record endorsed three points.
JAMIE JOSEPH HARRISON, aged 40 of Linton Road, Tamerton Foliot: Dorve on A390 in Calstock in excess of 30mph limit. Fined £153. Victim surcharge £61. Court costs £90. Driving record endorsed three points.
BARRY PAUL JOHNSON, aged 37 of Rolston Close, Plymouth: Drove Ford Transit van on A38[2] Wrangaton in excess of 60mph limit for that vehicle. Fined £72. Victim surcharge £28. Driving record endorsed three points.
FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH COURT ORDER
EMILY POTTER, aged 44, of Lympne Avenue, Plymouth: Failed to comply with community order by failing to attend probation appointments. Fined £40.
LIAM ANDREW WHIFFIN, aged 39 of no fixed abode, Plymouth: Failed to comly with supervision requirements imposed following release from a period of imprisonment by failing to attend appointments. Prison for seven days.
ASHLEY JEFFREY, aged 33 of Penlee Way, Plymouth: Failed to comply with community order by failing to attend appointments. Fined £100. Court costs £60.
ASSAULT
JOSHUA JAMES WHITE, aged 34 of King Street, Plymouth: Community order revoked due to inability to complete unpaid work due to medical reasons. Original offence of assault of named man in Notte Street. Possession of knuckle duster in public place, namely Notte Street. Assault of another named man in Notte Street. Fined £320.
DAVID CALLICOTT, aged 36 of Wolseley Road, Plymouth: Common assault. Victim surcharge. £154. Prison six weeks.
ASSAULT EMERGENCY WORKER
MAURICE ROWLAND, aged 32 of Albert Road, Plymouth: Assault of emergency worker – namely police officer at Charles Cross police station. Two offences of threatening or abusive behaviour towards two police officers at Charles Cross police station. Indecent exposure of genitals at Charles Cross police station. Criminal damage to holding cell at Charles Cross police station. Prison 52 weeks. Must register at police station for seven years. Compensation £200 to each of the three officers.
HARASSMENT
ALAN BROWN, aged 71 of Walker Terrace, Plymouth: Racially/religiously aggravated harassment. Fined £88.
THEFT
TOMMY SMALL, aged 34 of car park at Colin Campbell Court, Plymouth: Assault by beating of named man in Park Avenue, Devonport[3]. Theft from Co-operative store in Salisbury Road, of two Ariel original laundry pods, two Lenor fresh boost and two Fairy scent boosts worth £25.20. Theft from Spar store in Park Avenue of three jars of coffee worth £31.50. Theft of £15 worth of pork pies, can of drink and laundry capsules from Co-operative store in Albert Road. Theft of £5.05p worth of cupcakes and Belgium buns from Greggs in Royal Parade. Prison for nine weeks. Compensation £25.20, £31.50, £15 and £5.05 to shops and £100 to victim of assault.
JACQUI SHOREMAN, aged 26, of Keyham[4] Road, Plymouth: Theft of one bottle of wine and three cans of alcohol from Co-op store, Albert Road worth £15. Court costs £85. Victim surcharge £32. Fined £80. Compensation £15.
THREATENING BEHAVIOUR
PAUL GARGETT, aged 57 of Westcountry Close, Weston Mill: Threatening or abusive behaviour in Pike Road towards named man. Court costs £85. Victim surcharge £48. Fined £120.
WEAPONS
MICHAEL GARNETT, aged 45 of Gloucester Place, Plymouth: Possession of knife – folding pocket knife over three inches – in public place. Court costs £85. Victim surcharge £114. Fined £120.
MARK SMITH, aged 51 of Vicarage Road, Plymouth: Possession of offensive weapons – namely two knuckle dusters, two daggers, one baton, three flick knives and a butterfly knife – in private place, namely Vicarage Road. Court cost £85. Victim surcharge £26. Conditional discharge 12 months.
OTHER
PAUL ALAN GARGETT, aged 57 of Pike Road, Efford: Being a person in charge of a dog, failed to comply with requirement to remove faeces on two occasions. Fined £220. Fined £330. Victim surcharge £220. Court costs £200.
LEE WHEELER, aged 49 of Winston Avenue, Plymouth: Failed to surrender to custody at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court. Victim surcharge £16.Fined £40.
JACK LANGDON, aged 27 of Seaton Avenue, Plymouth: Failed to comply with notification requirements of Sex offenders’ register by failing to notify police that address he stayed at for at least 12 hours at a household or other private place where an under 18 year old resided or stayed. Failed to comply with the notification requirement to notify the police of an address he stayed at for seven days plus in a 12 month period. Community order – Rehabilitation activity up to 25 days. Unpaid work 120 hours. Court costs £85. Victim surcharge £114.
JANE GOSS, aged 51 of California Gardens, Plymouth: Four counts of sending offensive/indecent/obscene/menacing message – namely phone call and text message to social workers at social services. Considered racially aggravated offence. Community order – Rehabilitation activity requirement up to 20 days. Court costs £85. Victim surcharge £114. Fined £160.
