A38 slip road closed overnight after cement mixer overturns at Marsh Mills

An A38 slip road in Plymouth is set to remain closed overnight tonight after a cement overturned across the carriageway. The entry slip road, from the Forder Valley roundabout, has been closed since just before 9am on Friday, July 26, after the vehicle flipped onto its side and spilled a liquid across the road[1].

Devon and Cornwall Police[2] were called to the scene at around 8.50am, alongside Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and the South West Ambulance Service. The lorry driver is reported to have sustained a minor injury in the crash.

Since the morning crash, traffic has been backed up along Forder Valley Road and Platinum Parkway. Plymouth Highways has now said the stretch of road will need to remain closed overnight to repair the road surface, and further delays at rush hour this evening are anticipated.

Plymouth Highways said: "The slip road will need to remain closed overnight due to issues with the road surface following the earlier accident. Further updates will follow."

A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesperson said earlier today: "Police were called to the A38[3] Forder Valley Interchange at around 8.50am on Friday 26 July following reports of an overturned lorry on the slip road to Marsh Mills.

"Ambulance and fire were called as well as the Environment Agency due to liquid on the road. The slip road was closed and a diversion put in place. Recovery has been arranged. The driver is believed to have suffered a minor injury."
