A5 closed as woman seriously hurt in ‘rollover’ crash
Two people were taken to hospital following a crash that has closed part of the A5 in Lichfield[1]. A woman was seriously injured in the ‘rollover’ smash, which involved a car towing a caravan.
Emergency services were called to the eastbound carriageway – between Muckley Corner and Wall Island – just before 11.30am on Monday, July 22. The woman, who was the passenger, was taken to Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital[2] for further treatment.
A man who was driving the car was also taken to hospital as a precaution. Lichfield Police has urged motorists to “find an alternative route” while the stretch of road remains closed.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service[4] spokesperson said: “We were called to a rollover road traffic collision at the junction of Watling Street and the A5 in Wall, Lichfield, at 11.26am this morning. Two ambulances attended and treated two occupants from a car towing a caravan, which had overturned.
“The passenger, a woman, sustained serious injuries and received emergency care on scene before being conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham[5], for further trauma care. The driver, a man, was described as walking wounded and was also conveyed to the same hospital as a precaution.”
A Staffordshire[6] Police spokesperson added: “We were called around 11.30am this morning (Monday 22 July) reports of a collision involving a car towing a caravan on the A5 road, Muckley Corner in Burntwood. Both the driver and passenger of the car were taken to hospital. Their injuries are not deemed to be life-changing or life-threatening. Recovery for both the car and caravan are being arranged.”
