Air ambulance called after serious crash involving young child in Somerset

The air ambulance was called following a serious crash in Somerset. Three people, including a young child, were taken to hospital.

The crash took place on the A39 Wells Road, near Polsham, at around 2.45pm on Saturday and emergency services rushed to the scene. It involved a white Peugeot van and a grey Kia Sportage.

A woman and a young child from the Kia were rushed to hospital by land ambulance. Police said the woman suffered a potentially life-changing injury while the child went as a precaution.

A second woman, the driver of the van, was also taken to hospital by land ambulance. She is not believe to have sustained a life-changing or life-threatening injury.

Police said the air ambulance attended to support their emergency colleagues, but it was not needed for patient transport. Investigating officers are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with relevant dashcam footage to get in touch.

Mendip neighbourhood policing said in a post on Facebook: “Officers would like to thank members of the public who assisted at the scene. If you can help the investigation into what happened, please call 101 and give the reference 5224196069.”
