Drivers facing lengthy A90 diversion as new Toll of Birness speed cameras to be installed

Drivers in Aberdeenshire[1] are facing lengthy diversions on the A90[2] next week as new speed cameras are installed at a notorious junction.

The cameras are due to be fitted at Toll of Birness[3], where the A90 splits to Peterhead and the A952 north towards Fraserburgh.

The junction has become a notorious accident blackspot in recent years, some of them fatal, which led to calls to install the soon to be fitted safety cameras.

Motorists will be instructed to travel through the A90T, the A950 at Mintlaw, and the A952 towards Fraserburgh.

The road will be closed from Monday, July 22, and remain shut for a further four days, with Aberdeenshire Council warning drivers of the upcoming works.

The council said: "Road users should be aware that owing to the installation of speed camera units, the A952 northbound at Toll of Birness will be subject to a closure from next Monday (July 22) for four days.

"Due to the requirement that a diversion must divert to roads that are the same class as the one that is closed, the formal detour is via the A90T (Peterhead), A950 (Mintlaw) and A952 (Toll of Birness).
