Emergency clean-up operation continues after A38 cement truck spill

Work is continuing on Saturday morning to clean up a section of road in Plymouth where a cement truck overturned. Emergency repairs are still taking place on the A38[1] slip road at the Forder Valley roundabout.

The road has been closed since just before 9am on Friday, July 26, after the vehicle flipped onto its side and spilled a liquid[2] across the carriageway.

The latest update on the traffic site Inrix says: “The Parkway Eastbound entry slip road closed due to emergency repairs at A3822 Forder Valley Road (Forder Valley Interchange).”

Devon and Cornwall Police[3] were called to the scene at around 8.50am on Friday, alongside Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and the South West Ambulance Service. The lorry driver is reported to have sustained a minor injury in the crash.

A photo taken at the scene shows a large, eight-wheel vehicle overturned on its side, appearing to block two lanes.

The incident caused some delays on Friday with traffic backed up along Forder Valley Road and Platinum Parkway. Plymouth Highways said the stretch of road needed to remain closed overnight to repair the road surface.

Drivers should expect some delays in the area on Saturday until repairs are complete. Follow our live blog here[4] for the latest as we get it.
