Fairground ride on fire leads to M5 closure

Traffic has been stopped on the M5 after a lorry carrying a fairground ride caught fire.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said they received a call just before 09:30 BST, after the trailer of a lorry caught fire between junctions 22 and 23 near Bridgwater.

The service said two appliances and a water carrier are currently in attendance, and police are also at the scene.

A spokesperson for the service said the trailer was “well alight”.

Two lanes have reopened, but the middle lane northbound between the two junctions remain closed.

National Highways South West said there were delays of up to 120 minutes.
