Family pay tribute to great-grandfather after Abingdon crash

Edward Lamb, aged 85, was a passenger in a silver Ford Focus when four cars crashed on the A415 close to Abingdon Town Football Club at around 3.30pm on Wednesday, May 22.

A silver VW Golf[1] initially collided with a blue Ford C-Max, which then collided with the car Mr Lamb was travelling in.

The silver VW Golf continued on and then collided with a black VW Polo.

Mr Lamb was taken to hospital but died six days later (Tuesday, May 28).

His family has since paid tribute describing him as a person who “loved life”.

The statement reads: “Edward was a very proud father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

“Edward, 85, a retired lorry driver, loved life, he was still very active, a keen angler, fishing three times a week, he had time to talk and have laughs with anyone.

“Edward will be sadly missed by all his family, friends and everyone that knew him.

A 40-year-old man who had been driving the VW Golf was also taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Headington with minor injuries.

The driver of the black VW Polo, a 67-year-old woman, suffered a fractured wrist and was taken to hospital, but has since been discharged.

The two occupants of the blue Ford C-Max, a 36-year-old woman and a 13-year-old girl, suffered minor injuries and did not need to be taken to hospital.

Thames Valley Police is continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage to come forward by submitting a report online or by calling 101, quoting the reference 43240239027.

Following the incident, investigating officer, detective constable Darren Baker said: “My thoughts are with the family of the passenger of the silver Ford Focus, an eighty-five-year-old man, who sadly has died as a result of this collision.

“I am appealing to anyone who was travelling on the Abingdon to Culham Road at the time to contact me if they saw the incident or the vehicles involved.

“I would also ask anyone who was driving in the area with a dash camera to check their camera and contact me if they have recorded anything that might assist our investigation.”
