Horrifying footage shows moment police officer is stabbed in neck

Shocking video footage showing the moment a police officer[1] was stabbed [2]in the neck has been shared by police. Jacob Brown launched an unprovoked, violent attack on two police officers while they responded to a car crash on Wednesday, July 26, last year.

The 27-year-old, wearing all black clothing with his hood tied tightly around his face, approached the responding officers, PS Ansell and PS Foster, from behind and immediately attacked PS Foster as he struck him in the head and neck.

PS Ansell began grappling with Brown as he tried to stop the attacks on his colleague but he too was hit several times in the neck and upper body. A third officer, PC Wolstencroft, then fired his taser at the attacker before arresting him. After the arrest, PS Ansell noticed blood coming from his neck where he had suffered a serious stab wound, with his colleague, PS Foster, helping him with the wound.

In the shocking footage shared by Greater Manchester Police this week, Brown, of Wood Road, Whalley Range, can be seen walking past before lunging towards PS Ansell at the scene of the collision. Despite being remanded into custody, Brown continued his reign of terror while he was in HMP Liverpool[3].

On Thursday, August 10, last year, Brown stabbed a member of staff at the prison during an induction, with the attacker arming himself with a sharp object before attacking the member of staff, a man in his 50s, cutting his ear and head. Less than a month later, on Friday, September 1, 2023, Brown attacked a prison guard and stabbed him in the neck with a sharp object.

As a result, Brown was charged again, with him being sentenced [4]on Friday, April 19, 2024, to an indefinite hospital order until he is deemed safe and stable for release after he pleaded guilty to one count of attempted murder and three counts of wounding with intent.

All three officers were honoured with the Bravery Award at the Chief Constable’s Annual Awards in October 2023. Detective Inspector Kelly of City of Manchester South’s CID, led the GMP investigation and said at the time: “Jacob Brown is considered to be a dangerous and violent man, as also marked by the Judge. There appeared to be no clear motive for these attacks – officers were taken completely by surprise and only their quick reactions stopped the outcome from being fatal.

“The prospect of violence towards police officers is a daily threat and won’t be tolerated. I am glad that our swift and thorough investigation has resulted in Brown being held to account for what he has done, and he is now away from the communities within Greater Manchester.”

Detective Inspector Neil Dillon of Merseyside Police[5] added: “Brown is quite clearly an extremely dangerous individual and thankfully he has been convicted and sentenced for these serious offences. Officers and staff who work for the police and prison service understand the risks of the job, but they should never have to tolerate such violence against them when they are simply attempting to carry out their duties.

“The impact of these attacks should not be underestimated. It can have a huge impact on their physical and mental wellbeing as well as their families. My message to those who carry out violence against police is clear: please remember, whatever you think of us, one day you or your families may need our help too.”
