Katie Price’s tragic pets – horror deaths to hit and runs as Princess is blamed for one

Katie Price[1] vows to be an animal lover but critics say the star should be banned from keeping pets altogether.

Eight of the star’s animals have died in the past few years and a petition calling for her to be slapped with a lifetime ban has attracted 37,000 signatures to date.

Animal charity PETA[2] sent Katie an open letter earlier this year offering her £5,000 if she signs a contract not to keep another pet, claiming “things have gone horribly wrong with many of the animals under her supervision”.

Dog-obsessed Katie[3], 46, remains undeterred however and currently cares for four Chihuahuas, Captain, Buddy, Colin and Batman. We take a look back at what happened to her tragic previous pets…

A significant number of Katie[5]‘s pets have lost their lives in road accidents. In June last year, her German Shepherd Blade was struck on the busy A24, close to her home in East Sussex.

“Words can’t express the lost of my best friend my protector my absolutely everything who had sadly passed away today,” wrote the star on Instagram[6]. “I have no words to say how I’m feeling but numb and shocked rip Blade.”

Speaking out after her ordeal, Katie told fans she believes her guard dog was killed on purpose in a ‘sick’ attack against her.

Blade’s death came six months after Katie[7]‘s pet Pomeranian Sharon was killed, reportedly in a horror crash on the same road. The year before that, Katie’s Alsatian Queenie, a present from her ex Kieran Hayler, was allegedly hit by a pizza delivery driver. “I’m absolutely devastated,” wrote the star on social media. “…she was killed by a heartless delivery driver who ran into our dog seeing her struggle and drove off without telling and left her to die.”

In 2020 another Alsatian belonging to Katie[8], Sparkle, was killed on the A24 and in 2017, one of her horses was killed on the A24 when it escaped from a field.

In July 2020, French bulldog Rolo died after getting stuck under an electric armchair. The pet had been a present for Katie’s daughter’s 13th birthday and the mum called what happened a ‘freak accident[9]‘, with Princess not at home.

Katie fought valiantly to resuscitate the pup, administering CPR and rushing him to the vet, where she learned it was sadly too late. “There was nothing they could do, but they did say he wouldn’t have died in pain, it was quick,” she explained on YouTube, revealing how she had been packing in another room while daughter Bunny played with the dog in front of other adults.

“Basically I was in the other room because we’re going on holiday, packing their suitcases,” said Katie[10]. “There was five people in the other room, so people saying the puppy was left, it wasn’t left at all. And it just got stuck under one of the chairs.”

Rollo had replaced Princess’s previous dog Sparkle, who was run over. In her new memoir This Is Me, the star suggests Princess, 17, was responsible for the latest tragedy. “The breeder we had bought the dog from had given us CBD oil to give this dog and I don’t know if Princess had given it too much or what,” she wrote[11]. “…that day it had gone under the reclining chair to sleep and no-one had realised and it had been crushed.”

Meanwhile in September 2021, it was reported that Katie had given her French Bulldog Precious to a crew member working on her Channel 4[12] show Mucky Mansion less than a year after she became part of the family.

Precious had been gifted to Katie[13] by her ex-fiancé Carl Woods on their six month anniversary. Katie’s daughter Princess had chosen the name and Katie called her new pet ‘our new baby together’.

In January this year, the star was reported to have also given away her puppy Tank, replacing it with a Sphynx kitten.[14] A friend told the Sun the reason was because her dog no longer looked ‘cute on Instagram’.

Back in April 2019 she rehomed her £1,000 Alsatian puppy Bear after the dog[15] kept escaping. A police officer had returned the pet home after finding him running loose near the A24 – something he did on multiple occasions.

Katie previously owned Sphynx cats Dobby and Hagrid but in 2017 said she was selling them for £1,300 each because their dogs[16] didn’t get on with them. She continued to post photos of the cats on Instagram until 2021 so it is unclear whether she sold them.

Meanwhile, animal welfare charity PETA accused Katie[17] of ‘slapping’ her puppy Tank[18] off-screen during a live broadcast on TikTok in 2023. Viewers claimed they heard a smacking sound, with the star saying to her pet ‘Get off! You’re sitting on my jumpers, my love jumpers that I love’.

PETA Founder Ingrid Newkirk said: “There is almost nothing more Katie Price[19] could do to cement the fact that she is an unfit dog guardian and an irresponsible person.” The Mirror[20] contacted Katie’s reps for comment at the time.

Katie also had a pet called Marvin belonging to son Junior – but the chameleon sadly died in November 2018. According to the Sun[21], the star claimed the pet had ‘died of a broken heart’ when her son moved in with his dad Peter Andre[22] over the summer but said in reality her mansion wasn’t being heated sufficiently for the reptile.

In further tragedy, Katie’s pet cat Frog was put down at five months after he developed an incurable neurological disease. In her memoir, she wrote: “A few weeks after writing this chapter, we noticed that Frog stopped jumping on the side of the kitchen. Then he couldn’t jump on the sofa. Then he couldn’t jump up on the bed. There was something wrong with him so I took him to the vets.

“He had a neurological disease. There was absolutely nothing I could do. Within days it had spread through his body right to the point that he couldn’t even go to the toilet on his own. So I cuddled him in my arms and he had to be put to sleep. He was only five months old.”

Katie was said to be “devastated” after a petition to ban her from owning animals was signed by thousands of people. Her reps said at the time it was “incorrect” to say that she doesn’t love animals.

“Katie is aware of this petition,” her spokesperson said to The Sun. “It comes as a devastating blow as it is wholly biased, based on hearsay not actual fact. Katie loves her animals and to say otherwise is incorrect, unjust and unkind. It couldn’t be further from the truth.”
