M42 lorry crash live as lanes blocked after crash near Birmingham Airport
Two lanes are currently blocked on the M42 northbound[1] after a lorry crash near Birmingham Airport. The collision between a lorry and a car happened this afternoon near J5, for Solihull, and J6 for BHX.
Traffic has built up between the junctions on the major motorway. Delays of around 45 minutes are expected, with around five miles of congestion.
National Highways West Midlands wrote on social media platform X: “Two lanes (of three) are closed on the M42 northbound[2] between J5 for Solihull and J6 for Birmingham Airport due to a collision involving a lorry and car.
“Delays of 45 minutes and approx. Five miles of congestion on approach.” The latest traffic update on Inrix reads: “M42 northbound[4] partially blocked, queueing traffic due to accident between J5 and J6. Congestion to J4 (Shirley / Dorridge).
“Traffic is also congested on the opposite due to the onlookers. In the roadworks area.” We have contacted emergency services for comment on this incident.
