Major crash leaves woman with ‘very serious’ injuries

A woman remains in hospital after a major crash on the A40 in Gloucester. The busy road was closed throughout the afternoon and evening of Wednesday, July 10, after a woman was airlifted to hospital with very serious injuries[1].

Two women suffered injuries during the collision, which involved a car and a pick-up truck. Gloucestershire Police[2], in an update given today, Thursday, July 11, said one woman remains in hospital.

The A40 reopened in the early hours of the morning, a police spokesperson added. The force is now appealing for information from witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage of the collision.

Gloucestershire Police said: “The road reopened in the early hours of this morning and a woman remains in hospital. Anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dashcam footage can provide this to police online by completing the following form and quoting incident 227 of 10 July: How to tell us about an existing case or report | Gloucestershire Constabulary[3].”

An air ambulance was spotted landing on the Over bypass, between Over roundabout and Longford roundabout, at around 2.30pm, with the A40 closed in both directions shortly before 3pm, according to traffic monitoring site Inrix. In a statement given yesterday, police said one person had been flown to Bristol’s Southmead Hospital.

“Emergency services are at the scene of a serious two-vehicle collision on the A40 in Gloucester. The collision happened shortly before 2pm today, Wednesday, July 10, and involved a car and a pick-up truck. Two women are receiving treatment with one being flown to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with serious injuries.[4]
