Police detain ‘paralytically drunk’ lorry driver after series of collisions

A lorry driver was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving following reports of multiple collisions in Stafford. Staffordshire Police were called to Lichfield Road on Monday evening (July 22) following reports of an HGV being involved in a number of collisions.

The force's roads policing unit said the driver refused to provide a breath sample at the scene.

A photograph of the lorry surrounded by police cars was shared on the units Twitter[1] account on Monday evening alongside a post which read: "Reports of multiple RTCs with this HGV at fault @PoliceStafford. Intercepted and the driver paralytically drunk."

The post continued: "Refused to provide a sample of breath roadside and now on his way to the cells. We shall be looking to remand him before the courts tomorrow morning," reports Birmingham Live[2].
