A woman has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following a two-vehicle collision that has closed the A40[1] in Gloucester this afternoon, Wednesday, July 10. She was one of two women injured in a crash involving a car and a pick-up truck.

Gloucestershire Police[2] have issued a statement. It reads: "Emergency services are at the scene of a serious two-vehicle collision on the A40 in Gloucester.

"The collision happened shortly before 2pm today, Wednesday, July 10, and involved a car and a pick-up truck. Two women are receiving treatment with one being flown to Southmead Hospital in Bristol with serious injuries.[3]

"The road currently remains closed between the A40 and the A417 Over Causeway. Motorists are advised to find alternative routes."

An air ambulance was spotted landing on the Over bypass, between Over roundabout and Longford roundabout, at around 2.30pm, with the A40 closed in both directions shortly before 3pm, according to traffic monitoring site Inrix.

The road remains closed between the A40 and A417 Over Causeway with traffic said to be "extremely busy" around St Oswalds, according to a witness.

National Highways said: "The A40 in Gloucestershire is closed in both directions between the A417 near Gloucester (north) and the A38 near Longford due to a serious collision. Emergency services are in attendance, including the Air Ambulance. More information to follow, thank you for your patience."
