A12 crash leaves police officer seriously injured after trying to stop car

A police officer was rushed to hospital after being struck by a car on the A12 which they had tried to stop with stingers in the road. The Met Police officer was left seriously injured after the Lexus crashed into him on the road on the Essex border.

At 4.45pm on Tuesday (August 6) officers attempted to stop a grey Lexus on the A12 at the junction with Barley Lane in Redbridge. The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was authorised, supported by officers from the Roads and Transport Policing Command.

As part of efforts to stop the car, officers set up a “stinger site”. The driver of the Lexus mounted the pavement before crashing into one of the officers. The suspect drove from the scene and his car was found abandoned on the Kings Mead estate in Hackney.
