Derby city centre live updates as road closed after collision involving van and pedestrian

A busy Derby city centre road was closed following a road traffic collision. The incident occurred on Saturday, August 3, shortly before 12pm.

St Alkmund's Way ring road[1] next to Bass Recreation Ground was closed due to the accident. Derbyshire Constabulary attended the scene after receiving reports of the incident at 11.43am.

An update from the force at the time stated: "A main road through Derby city centre is closed following a collision between a van and a pedestrian.

"The St Alkmund's Way ring road next to Bass Recreation Ground[2] and the old Cock Pit Island car park is shut. The pedestrian has been taken to hospital."

Traffic monitoring site Inrix stated: "A601 The Cockpitt Southbound blocked, slow traffic due to accident from A52 Eastgate (West Meadows Industrial Estate) to A6 Station Approach (The Cock Pit Traffic Lights, Derby)."

The road reopened at around 2.20pm. Traffic in the area is now easing and expected to return to normal shortly.
