Five motorcyclists killed in two major horror crashes just 35 minutes apart
Five motorcyclists have died in two separate horror crashes[1] just 35 minutes apart from each other – and near the same town.
Three bikers – all men in their 50s – died following the first collision on the A53 near Buxton, Derbyshire at around 9.45am on Sunday. A second fatal crash then took place at around 10.20am on the A6, also in the Buxton area.
Two motorcyclists, both men in their 20s, were pronounced dead at the scene of the second smash. Derbyshire Police[2] are investigating both collisions, and are asking for the public to send in dashcam footage of either incident.
The first crash, which shut the A53 for most of Sunday, involved three Ducati motorbikes, a van and a car. The driver of the van, and two people from the car, were also taken to hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The second crash occurred near Tom Thorn, a peak in the county, and involved two motorbikes and a car. A spokesperson for Derbyshire Constabulary said today: “Their families are aware and our thoughts are with them at this time.”

Following the first horror, the force had said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dashcam footage. If you can help with our investigation, contact us, using any of the below methods, quoting the reference 24*492531:
“Website – We have crime reporting tools on our website: use our online contact form. Facebook[3] – send us a private message to the Derbyshire Constabulary Facebook page.
“X (Twitter[4]) – direct message our contact centre via @DerPolContact Phone – call us on 101. You can also anonymously contact the independent charity CrimeStoppers, on 0800 555 111, or by visiting the CrimeStoppers website.”
Buxton is England’s highest market town at some 1,000 feet (300 m) above sea level. Road access to and from Buxton is largely on hilly, and sometimes treacherous routes through the Peak District. The second smash happened on a particularly steep and remote part of the A6, which after Buxton, heads northwest through the Peak District to Manchester[5].
