M67 closed as crash causes ‘large spillage’ with police at scene

Drivers are being urged to avoid part of the M67 motorway in Tameside[1] after a crash caused a ‘large spillage’ on the road. The westbound carriageway is currently closed between junctions four, at Mottram, and three, at Hyde.

National Highways says the collision has caused a spillage on the road. Police, highways officers and traffic officers are at the scene.

All traffic had been held on the motorway at around 11.20am, according to Inrix. An update from the traffic monitoring service says: “M67 Westbound blocked, slow traffic due to shed load from A57 Hyde Road (Broadbottom / Mottram) to J3 A627 Clark Way (Hyde).”

A diversion is in place, with the ‘solid triangle’ symbol being used. A National Highways spokesperson added: “The M67 in Greater Manchester is closed westbound between J4 (Mottram in Longdendale) and J3 (Hyde) due to a substantial spillage following a road traffic collision.

“At around 10:27 North West Motorway Police Group responded to reports a collision on the M67 westbound near Hyde. Two vehicles were involved in the collision, one of which had also struck the nearside and central reservation barriers.

“National Highways Traffic Officers arrived at scene to assist the police and have confirmed that no damage has been caused to either barrier. There is however a large diesel spill on the carriageway from the collision. National Highways service providers have been dispatched to treat the spillage and assess the road surface.”
