Man clocked by speed camera will have to resit his driving test – here’s why
Mark Cullen, of Ringway Road in Manchester, appeared at Mold Magistrates Court on Monday.
The 22-year-old admitted one offence of speeding, which took place on the A494 between Deeside Industrial Park Interchange and Queensferry Interchange.
Prosecutor Alan Williams told the court the offence happened shortly after 3am on November 12 last year.
Cullen was clocked driving his BMW by the average speed cameras - which monitor motorists over a 3,160 metre stretch of road.
The defendant's average speed was determined to be 78mph - when there is a 50mph (air quality) speed limit in place there.
Defending himself at the hearing, Cullen agreed with the prosecution facts.
He tried to explain his sat nav may have contributed to the situation.

But he was told the 50mph limit had been in place for "a long time" and regardless of what his sat nav had said, the road signs should have dictated his speed.
Upon hearing that the Magistrates had the power to give him a discretionary ban due to his excessive speed, the defendant told the court a ban would cause him difficulty.
He added his present income is £1,300 per fortnight.
After deliberating on the sentence, the Magistrates opted to hand down six penalty points.
But as Cullen was a 'new driver' at the time of the offence, he was informed the DVLA will revoke his licence in due course - and he will have to resit his theory and practical driving tests before he can get back behind the wheel.
The court fined him £650 and ordered him to pay £110 costs, as well as a £260 victim surcharge.
