Motorway junction smashed up as police vans crash

A motorway junction has been pictured smashed up with railings pulled up and traffic lights knocked to the ground after police vans were involved in a crash.

A police van was left with a completely wrecked front-end after smashing into a pedestrian crossing on a motorway junction.

A highway response unit and more police rushed to the scene at the Chadderton[1] junction of the M60[2] in Oldham[3] this evening (August 21). A police was seen directing traffic as the roads built up during peak rush hour, with queues forming back from the smashed van.

Rubble was left strewn across a pedestrian crossing

Railings were completely pulled out of the pavement and left strewn across a pedestrian crossing area after the van appeared to crash into the fencing. Rubble and chunks of stone were left across the road and the crossing section.

Images from the scene show the front-end of a police van is fully lodged onto the end of one set of railings. It’s headlamps were taken out by the collision, along with a set of traffic lights seen knocked to the ground.
