Police attended the scene shortly before 12.30pm on Wednesday after the four-seater Piper PA-28 crashed.

Two fire engines and ambulance crews also attended.

The only occupant of the plane, the pilot, was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital for further medical treatment.

The aircraft had taken off from Lydd Airport and was on its way to Rochester Airport.

Rochester Road was closed in both directions with officers redirecting traffic while emergency services were at the scene.

A specialist aircraft recovery unit arrived at about 4.30pm and began removing the plane from the bushes.

Within an hour it had been placed on a recovery truck and taken away, and the road reopened shortly after 6pm.

The light aircraft has reportedly been written off.

Rochester Airport confirmed to KentOnline on Wednesday that the incident will be subject to an investigation.

It has been reported to the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB), which has been approached for comment.
