Robbery gang spray man with ‘unknown substance’ after ramming cash van at busy Leicester junction
A man was sprayed with an “unknown substance” after a robbery gang rammed a cash collection van at a busy Leicester junction. A BMW motorbike stopped in front of the van, causing it to brake, before a black Nissan Navara hit it from the rear.
Police said the occupants of the van – two men in their 30s and 40s – were forced into the back of the van, where the gang demanded the keys to the safe. However, they were not able to gain access and the three suspects left the scene in the Nissan and on the motorcycle.
One of the men in the van was sprayed with the substance during the incident, which happened at shortly before 11am on Sunday (August 25) at the junction of Wigston Lane and Aylestone Road.
Detective Inspector Jenny Tattersall said: “Our investigation into this incident is continuing today and we know from enquiries carried out so far that there were a lot of people who saw what happened. I’m particularly keen to speak to any motorists with dashcams or anyone who filmed the incident on a mobile phone but has not yet spoken to us.
“Any details you’re able to provide, no matter how insignificant you think they are, could be important.”
