Speeders from Denbighshire dealt with at court this week

Lee Maxwell, aged 36 and of St Asaph Road in Dyserth, was sentenced for exceeding 50mph speed limit on the A494 between St David’s Park Interchange and Garden City. He was fined £219 and handed three penalty points.

The court also imposed costs of £110 and an £88 victim surcharge. However, the court opted not to ban him based on the exceptional hardship he and his family would suffer should he lose his licence.

The reasons he set out included that he works as a construction site manager and a licence is “essential” to his employment – and that his family relies on his income to support them and pay mortgage. Responsibility for school drop-offs and pick-ups was another reason the court didn’t ban him.

Emma Howorth, aged 53 and of Church Street in Llangollen, was sentenced for exceeding a 40mph speed limit on the A541 at Pontblyddyn on January 24, having been snapped by an automatic camera device. She was fined £72 and handed three penalty points.

The defendant must also pay a £28 victim surcharge.
