Three bikers killed in A53 five-vehicle pile-up
Three bikers have died in a five-vehicle crash on a major road. The collision – which also involved a car and a van – happened on the A53 between Leek and Buxton.
Police have now confirmed that three motorcyclists – all men in their 50s – were pronounced dead at the scene following the smash at around 9.45am today (August 18).
The driver of the van, and two people from the car, were also taken to hospital. The A53 remains closed in both directions this evening as an investigation continues.
A Derbyshire Police spokesman said: “We were called to reports of the collision on the Buxton to Leek road just outside Buxton at around 9.45am on Sunday, August 18.
“The collision involved three Ducati motorbikes, a van and a car. Three motorcyclists, all men in their 50s, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their families are aware and our thoughts with them.
“The driver of the van, and two people from the car, were also taken to hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
“We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dashcam footage. If you can help with our investigation, please get in touch.”
