Three motorcyclists die in collision on Derbyshire road

Three motorcyclists have been killed in a collision on a major road in the north of the county. Derbyshire police say they were called to reports of the incident on the A53 – the Buxton to Leek road – at around 9.45am on Sunday (August 18) morning.

A police statement said: “The collision involved three Ducati motorbikes, a van and a car. Three motorcyclists, all men in their 50s, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their families are aware and our thoughts with them.

“The driver of the van, and two people from the car, were also taken to hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dashcam footage.”

At the time of writing, the road remains closed, while accident investigation work continues.
