Traffic held on M6 after another crash on same stretch of motorway

There is heavy traffic on the M6 again after second crash on the same stretch of motorway in two days.

Traffic was held for around 10 minutes on the southbound carriageway between Junction 28 for Leyland and Junction 27 for Standish this morning (August 31). Lancashire Police has confirmed it was called to an ‘minor injury’ collision involving two cars at 10.18am.

It comes after seven people were injured[1] in a collision between a lorry, car and campervan on the same stretch of the M6 north of Wigan[2] yesterday (August 30). The injuries are not thought to be life-threatening as a result of the crash which occured at around 2pm.

Lancashire Police said the collision caused ‘considerable damage’ to the central reservation. The lorry also shed its load on the road.

Repair work is still being carried out and is like to carry on into this evening, the force said. Two lanes on the northbound carriageway and one lane on the southbound carriageway were open this morning (August 31) as the damage caused by the crash is repaired.

Another collision this morning (August 31) has caused further delays on the southbound carriageway of the M6. Delays have not been helped by the repairs emergency barrier closing one of the lanes on this stretch of the motorway following the multi-vehicle collision.

In a statement this morning (August 31), Lancashire Police said: “Yesterday we told you that the M6 was closed in both directions due to a collision involving a HGV, a campervan and a car on the northbound carriage of Junction 27. Seven people suffered injuries, although none are thought to be life-threatening.

“The collision caused considerable damage to the central reservation and the HGV has also shed its load. Although repair work is ongoing and are likely to go into this evening, two lanes on the northbound carriageway and one lane on the southbound carriageway have now been re-opened.

“Thank you for your ongoing patience. Please allow for extra travel time and find alternative routes if possible.”
