Tributes paid to much loved Lanarkshire teen Christopher Keenan who died in M74 lorry crash
Tributes have been paid to a much-loved Lanarkshire teen who died following a collision with a HGV on the M74.
Emergency services were called to the busy motorway at around 3.10am on Saturday, August 3, following reports of an incident involving a pedestrian and lorry[1]. Despite the best efforts of medics, 18-year-old Christopher Keenan was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is believed that the Blantyre[2] teen had been walking southbound near junction six to Hamilton at the time of the incident. Tributes have since flooded in for the ‘kind and caring’ teen following the tragic incident.
One person wrote: “Forever 18 big brother no words can explain how much I will miss u forever proud of u love u so much.”
Another added: “Forever 18 our beautiful boy. We love and miss you so much our family’s thoughts are also with the driver, the police and emergency services who were all involved.. RIP Chrissy boy.”
A third said: “Chrissy you will be missed ma wee pal. Always had a smile on your wee face. RIP . Condolences to all the family at this tragic time.”
Terminal One Youth Centre wrote: “Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Christopher Keenan. Christopher attended Terminal One groups for many years and was always a kind, caring and lovely boy to everyone.
“He will be missed by all the staff that had the privilege of working with him.”
Christopher’s family previously shared a statement through Police Scotland[5], paying tribute to the teen who will be “missed by everyone”.
It reads: “We would like to thank everyone for their condolences. Christopher was a much loved son, brother, grandson and cousin.
“He was an inspiration to all that knew him, and he will be greatly missed by everyone.”
Enquiries are ongoing into the collision, with police asking anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch.
Sergeant John Houston said: “Our thoughts remain with Christopher’s family and friends at this very difficult time. I am urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw Christopher walking along the roadway, and has not yet spoken to us to please get in touch.
“We would also like to see any dashcam footage taken around the time of the collision on the M74 between junctions six and seven.
“Anyone with information should contact us by calling 101, quoting reference 0512 of 3 August.”
