Woman struck by van in Smethwick rushed to hospital with head injuries

A pedestrian was rushed to hospital yesterday with head injuries after being struck by a van in Smethwick[1]. The serious crash happened in Sycamore Road[2] at around 12pm on Friday, August 2.

A witness said the street was sealed off by police following the crash. Police at the scene assisted paramedics.

The woman was taken to hospital but her current condition is not known. We have reached out to West Midlands Ambulance service for comment.

The crash happened after a series of road tragedies in the West Midlands. The first tragedy saw a male pedestrian killed when he was hit by a car while at a bus stop in Hockley’s Great Hampton Street[4] on Sunday, July 21.

Another man, dad Aiden Perris, died after being struck by a car while sitting outside a bar in Sutton Coldfield’s Boldmere Road on July 25. An 18-year-old also died, and two others were injured, in a crash on the A45 Coventry Road in Yardley[5] on July 26.

On yesterday’s crash, a West Midlands Police[6] spokesperson said: “We were called to Sycamore Road, Smethwick[7], at 12pm yesterday, August 2, to assist ambulance colleagues after a collision involving a van and a pedestrian. Officers attended and a woman was taken to hospital with head injuries.”
